Brooke’s Favorite Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Bread

This is one of Brooke’s favorite winter breads to bake! It satisfies the sweet-tooth without causing wreckage on your gut! Most of the sweetness comes from banana and apple sauce, instead of sugar. The recipe calls for oat flour, buckwheat flour, and dairy free milk — but in a pinch we’ve used other GF flours & whole milk. It made no difference!   • oil
  • 2 Tbsp flax meal
  • 3/4 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 Tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (we love crunchy but creamy works too)
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened apple sauce
  • 2/3 cup cane sugar
  • 3/4 cup mashed bananas
  • 2 Tbsp dairy free milk (or whole milk)
  • 2/3 Cups chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Grease 9×5 loaf pan with oil
  3. Add flax meal in a small bowl & stir in 1/3 cup of water, let soak for 20mins at least
  4. In a medium bowl mix oat flour, buckwheat flour, baking powder, and salt – set aside
  5. Mix the peanut butter & applesauce well (electric mixer helps, but not necessary)
  6. Add the sugar, and the bananas and all other dry ingredients, flax meal, and milk until well combined – add the chocolate chips last (it’s normal for the bananas to still be a bit lumpy)
  7. Add batter into loaf pan and bake for 50 – 55mins
